The new tablet device from Panasonic Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:PC) features a 10.1 inch display and runs on Intel’s Corei5 processor in a heavy duty and durable frame the company says can handle rough weather conditions.
The new Toughpad G1 is like other rough and ready devices of Panasonic’s Toughpad model series that is said to be great tablet offering vertical market portability without sacrificing expected durability. The G1 comes with a long lasting 8.5 hour long-lasting and replaceable battery along with stylus functionality.
Panasonic Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:PC) product management director Kyp Walls says the G1 offers the best of the consumer and enterprise markets expected by consumers by offering ease of use, security packaged in a tablet form and running the user friendly Windows 8 OS.
“We have had a lot of enthusiasm for the Android Toughpads, the A1 and the B1,” Walls said in a media release. “But, to be honest with you, when we first brought out the A1, a lot of customers said, ‘that’s a great design, but we need it to run Windows.’”
The company has plans to make the most of Android and Windows platforms Walls said in press releases, adding, “I don’t think we will see Windows 8 tablets eliminate Android tablets. I think they will co-exist.”
Panasonic Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:PC) also announced Tuesday its 7-inch Toughpad B1 tablet, which was first unveiled at last year’s CES, will start shipping next month.
“Customers told us they liked the [10.1-inch] Toughpad A1 and that it was a great size for most users, but that people wanted to do one-handed use, and that a 7-inch tablet was going to be more attractive for them,” Walls said.
The new Toughpad B1 will compete in a market with an expanding number of smaller, compact tablets including Google’s Nexus 7, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s new iPad mini, and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD.
