The desperate 26-year-old actress has stripped down her Twitter account in the last few days, leaving only her name, avatar picture and a link to her WhoSay page on her verified @AmandaBynes page. Curious…
Bynes went all minimalistic on us on the social networking site just after a report was published saying that she was involved in another hit-and-run accident in LA. It’s not quite clear whether the two events are related, but the timing certainly is odd. The Los Angeles Police Department states that an investigation is indeed taking place, but they cannot verify whether the alleged hit-and-run involved Miss Bynes. If the actress was to be found to be the person responsible for of the hit-and-run, it wouldn’t affect her existing DUI status.
“They are completely separate events,” says legal expert Troy Slaten, a criminal attorney. “The only way the alleged hit-and-run would affect her DUI would be if she was on probation for the DUI, which she is not. If the hit-and-run happened after she was placed on probation, it could be a violation of her probation.” Bynes pleaded “not guilty” to the DUI charge that was made in June. She has a pre-trial setting conference scheduled for September 12.
The legal expert also says the separate cases would have separate witnesses, separate prosecuting agencies, separate courts and therefore separate judges. “If I were Amanda’s attorney, I would be contacting the victim, making sure any property damage was paid for, and trying to get the city attorney to not file and if they did file, make a motion to the judge for a civil compromise. I would tell her if she were ever in an accident, no matter how small, it is her civic duty to exchange information. And for some reason if she couldn’t, to immediately report the incident to the police.” The maximum penalty for most misdemeanours like this involving hit and runs are about six months in jail and a $1000 fine. We’re hoping it all works out for the best for Amanda.
