Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) counts on semi custom chips for greater revenue

Advanced Micro DevicesThe renowned chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NYSE:AMD) sees business opportunity in the gaming consoles by selling chips. The company expects a 20 % growth in its semi custom chip business by the end of 2013. The company produces processors for PlayStation 4 designed by Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE).

Its also been reported that software giant Microsoft Corporation is using semi custom chips designed by AMD for its next generation Xbox game console, which is scheduled to be launched on May 21.

An executive recently disclosed that Sony is using semi custom processors that use an accelerated processing unit chip that combines AMD’s graphics and microprocessor technologies on the same piece of silicon. The business unit is being administered by company’s general manager and corporate vice president Saeid Moshkelani who joined AMD last year from Trident Microsystems. AMD’s semi custom chip customers do not allow the company to openly discuss about this particular product due to some undisclosed reasons.

Coming to the stock performance; Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) in last trading session end up at $3.22 by rising 14.18% with the average volume of 16.74 million shares.  In after hours AMD shares remained unchanged.

Coming to the stock performance; Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) in last trading session end up at $16.25 by falling -1.10% with the average volume of 2.85 million shares.

The stock price saw week’s volatility of 2.00% and month’s volatility is 1.89%, while the stock price of the company is moving down from its 20 days moving average with -2.42% and isolated positively from 50 days moving average with 0.12%.
